Advance Testing's Smith to receive Ottaway Medal

Advance Testing Co. Inc. founder and President James Smith has been named the recipient of the 2015 Ruth & James Ottaway Medal by the Orange County Citizens Foundation.
The medal recognizes significant community achievement. The Ottaways helped create the foundation. The family is a former owner of the Times Herald-Record.

Smith launched Advance Testing in 1984. The company, which operates a materials testing laboratory in Campbell Hall, has more than 100 employees.

Smith has served on the boards of numerous community organizations, including the Orange County Chamber of Commerce, the Newburgh Rotary, the Hudson Valley Boy Scout Council, SUNY Orange, Mount Saint Mary College and Hudson Valley Economic Development Corp.
Smith will be honored at the foundation's annual Ottaway Dinner at 6:30 p.m. May 6 at the Newburgh Armory Unity Center, 321 S. William St. in Newburgh. Tickets are $125.
